Thousands of St. Johns County students depend on the school-based breakfast and lunch program. Unfortunately, the long holiday break can mean hunger for local kids. Hugs Across the County’s 4th Annual No Hungry Holidays program is a community-wide effort to provide a bag full of roughly 10 days worth of breakfast and lunch items to children referred by their school counselors at almost every St. Johns County School.
Next time you are shopping, please collect an extra bag of items and bring it back to FILL A SOUL at Family Kia of St. Augustine.
SHOPPING LIST:
Our bag includes the following, currently valued at roughly $22 at Walmart:
One Family Size Box of unsweetened cereal (Cheerios, Chex, Corn Flakes)
One large jar of creamy peanut butter
One box of Saltine style crackers
10 cans of pop top Chef Boyardee and/or hearty soups
8 fruit cups
10 granola bars
Hugs is an all-volunteer 5013c nonprofit that works closely with the St. Johns County School District, school counselors, and other social services agencies to provide basic necessities to local kids-in-need, including the 300+ kids considered homeless. Throughout the year, we provide Clothing Care Packages, school-based food pantries, full size toiletries, new sneakers, mentors and more.
